Finally, the Apple firm deigns to repair iPhone equipped with a third battery; but it hardens in return its general conditions of intervention.

This is a small revolution in Apple's after-sales policy. According to information relayed on Tuesday by the site iGen, the firm would now accept to support the repair of iPhone whose battery was previously replaced outside the circuit repairers approved.

Until then, the battery was one of the rare pieces that could justify a refusal to intervene. If it was not original, the device could be returned to its owner without any repairs.

    More stringent checks

However, this relaxation is accompanied by a hardening of the repair conditions. Before, in the case of a battery replacement, the consumer was offered a brand new smartphone at the price of changing the battery (i.e. 49 euros or 69 euros depending on the model), in case the Apple technician was unable to remove the defective part. This is also applied to the replacement of an original battery, as well as a third battery if the technician was not aware of the provenance of the room.

The repair unions are against this policy

Today, in the latter case, the conditions are much stricter. At a higher price this time, the entire iPhone will be replaced if the technician cannot dislodge the unofficial battery; in case it was incorrectly installed.

This new policy has already aroused the anger of some unions that denounce the potential danger of batteries of unknown origin. They recall that some lithium batteries are causing short circuits potentially dangerous for the technicians who handle them. On the other hand, the CFDT Syndicate of Apple Retail France challenges this new procedure, in a tweet.
