The new console should accelerate the decline of physical media in favor of dematerialized games

Microsoft has just launched another innovation in the world of video games; a project of home console devoid of an optical disk drive. It is called ‘Xbox One S All-Digital Edition’. The future product will be available for pre-order in April before an official world release in May.

Dematerialized video games are gaining more and more ground, similar to other famous games such as "Fortnite" that available only online. Windows Central asserts that this growth is favored by publishers, whose margins in this area are far superior to those of games on physical media.

The absence of an optical disk on the future console will allow Microsoft to reduce its manufacturing costs. However, the manufacturer has not yet indicated a sale price for its new product.

On the other hand, players interested in the ‘Xbox One All-Digital Edition S’ must have a good internet connection to download and enjoy dematerialized games. At the same time, Microsoft also plans to launch its own cloud gaming offer, a streaming service for video games.
