MEN’S BEARDS CONTAIN MORE BACTERIA THAN DOGS' COATS

A Swiss survey asserts that the hairs of a man's beard contain more bacteria than a dog's coat.

According to a scientific study conducted by researchers at the Hirslanden Clinic in Switzerland, the human beard contains more bacteria than the coat of a dog. That is going to put the beards in bad shape.

These researchers based their study on a sample consisting of 18 bearded men, aged 18 to 76 years, and the fur of 30 dogs; then, they compared the bacterial burden of colonies of pathogenic microorganisms.

The results were extremely surprising and unexpected. The men's beards contained a high number of bacteria while only 23 of the 30 dogs contained them. The remaining 7 dogs had obviously medium to low levels.

According to the BBC, the beards of seven men included so many bacteria that there was a serious pathological risk. Consequently, “on the basis of these results, dogs can be considered clean compared to bearded men,” confirms Professor Andreas Gutzeit, the author of the study.

Notably, these scientists conducted this study for the sake of knowing if dogs could transmit diseases to humans, comparing the fur of dogs to the hairs of beard.
