Episode 4 of Game of Thrones - Season 8: Why Jon get Separated from his Wolf Ghost?

episode 4 of game of thrones - season 8: why jonget separated from his wolf ghost?

The farewells between the King of the North and his faithful, but a discreet, companion, made the fans scream. Thus, if you have not watched Episode 4, The Last of the Stark, of Game of Thrones - Season 8, this article will contain many spoilers about it.

Getting back to the very beginning of the series, Ned Stark, the father, allowed each of his children to own a giant wolf alongside them. These fantastic animals are very important in the books.

There was always a mysterious link united our heroes with these creatures. Therefore, the separation between Jon Snow and his wolf Ghost was a deeply sad scene, which outraged so many spectators of Game of Thrones.

As the seasons go by, the vast majority of these animals were dead. Only Nymeria, the wolf of Arya, and Ghost, that of Jon, are still alive. Nymeria has become wild refusing to return to the fold; similar to Arya who confirms in this episode that she will not return to Winterfell.

Ghost, on the other hand, is obviously still loyal to Jon. It fought with the Dothraki cavalry against the King of the Night's Army (in episode 3) and even lost a good part of its right ear after the battle.

    ‘Where is Jon's Hug?’

Before going to Port-Réal to help Daenerys in her conquest of the throne, Jon bids farewell to his old companions: Tormund, Sam, Gilly, as well as Ghost. He entrusts to the surviving Savages for the animal to join the ‘True North’. The animal seems dejected to see Jon leaving. Apparently, the camera does not stop on a moment of tenderness between the Ghost and Jon.

This was not tolerable by the public but justified by Director David Nutter. “Since giant wolves are digital creations, we think it's important to keep the scenes as simple as possible. And I think it made the sequence stronger as well,” he confirmed.

It is true that the interactions between wolves and men are rare in the series; yet, if Daenerys and Jon can caress the cheek of the dragons, in computer graphics, it would not have been impossible to recreate the same thing with a big wolf.

There are still two episodes left, and Tormund told Jon that he, too, would be a lot better in the North. Maybe we will see a reunion between him and his wolf before the final credits, or this scene from episode 4 will be like heartbreaking farewells between Jon and his closest friends.
